The idea
A pastel dream of a shopping atrium at closing time: pink and lavender skies fading to cyan, a perspective grid underfoot, marble fragments and palm leaves floating in still water. Classical serif headlines in italic, soft pill buttons, and everything slightly slowed down.
Vapor Pastel borrows from 2010s vaporwave and its fascination with 1990s consumer culture: empty mall atriums, early CGI, marble statuary, palm trees and the pastel sunset gradients of hotel brochures. The palette is pink, lavender and cyan; the mood is suspended and slightly melancholic. A classical display serif in italic gives the irony of antiquity, while a soft, rounded sans keeps it readable. A faint perspective grid sits underfoot. It should feel dreamy, slow and gently surreal.
Principles
- Slow everything down: long durations, soft easing, blur-in entrances.
- The sky gradient is the brand — pink to lavender to cyan.
- Classical serif headlines with one italic word for irony.
- Marble, water and palms are the only props.
- Leave a lot of empty pastel space; the vibe is vacancy.
Motion
Everything arrives slowly through a soft blur, as if half asleep. The sky gradient behind the hero breathes between pink and cyan over 20 seconds, and the marquee scrolls track names at walking pace.
Do & don't
Do
- ✓ Use durations of 1000–1400ms for entrances.
- ✓ Italicise exactly one word per headline.
- ✓ Use the sky gradient behind the hero and CTA band.
Don't
- ✕ Don't use hard shadows or thick borders.
- ✕ Don't use saturated primaries.
- ✕ Don't show statues with faces.
