The idea

The millennium imagined the future as liquid metal and translucent plastic, and this style takes it at its word. Chrome-gradient headlines, bubble-rounded glass cards, an icy blue canvas with soft aurora blooms and a single electric-blue button. Optimistic, shiny and a little bit toy.

Y2K Chrome revives the turn-of-the-millennium belief that the future would be translucent, bubbly and made of liquid metal: frosted-blue gadget shells, chrome type on music packaging, iridescent CD surfaces and early 3D product renders. The canvas is an icy blue-white with soft aurora blooms; cards are frosted glass with 28px radii; headlines carry a metallic gradient that catches the light. A single electric blue handles actions while bubblegum pink and lime appear as tiny highlights. It should feel optimistic, glossy and collectible.

Principles

  • Chrome belongs on display type and one hero object only.
  • Round everything like a bubble: 28px cards, pill buttons.
  • Frost, don't flatten — cards are translucent white over aurora.
  • Electric blue for actions; pink and lime as tiny sparks.
  • Show the product as a glossy 3D render floating in space.

Motion

Headlines sharpen from a 12px blur while their chrome gradient slowly pans left to right over 6 seconds, like light sliding across a polished case. Cards bloom a pale blue glow on hover.

Do & don't

Do

  • ✓ Pan the chrome gradient slowly across the h1.
  • ✓ Float the hero render with a soft shadow below it.
  • ✓ Keep aurora blooms pale and behind content.

Don't

  • ✕ Don't apply chrome to body text or buttons.
  • ✕ Don't use sharp corners.
  • ✕ Don't use dark mode — this future is daylight.
