The idea
A white floor scattered with squiggles, zigzags, dots and floating triangles in pink, yellow, teal and violet, all outlined in thick black. Chunky geometric capitals, cards with patterned shadows, and nothing quite at right angles. Loud, irreverent and unashamedly fun.
Memphis Party is built on the 1980s Memphis design movement and its love of clashing colour, laminate patterns, squiggles, zigzags and geometric primitives balanced at absurd angles. A clean off-white floor lets pink, yellow, teal and violet shapes float with thick black outlines. Chunky geometric capitals set headlines; a crisp grotesk keeps the reading sane. Cards wear patterned or offset shadows, and confetti drifts slowly behind the hero. It should feel irreverent, celebratory and confidently loud.
Principles
- Clash on purpose: pink next to yellow next to teal is correct.
- Outline every shape in 3px black.
- Float geometric confetti — triangles, squiggles, dots — behind content, never over it.
- Mix sharp cards with pill buttons for tension.
- Nothing perfectly aligned: offset shapes by a few degrees.
Motion
Confetti shapes in the hero drift and spin slowly on independent 12–20 second loops. Cards slide in from the left with a springy overshoot and tilt 3° on hover, their striped shadow staying put.
Do & don't
Do
- ✓ Alternate pink and yellow offset shadows on cards.
- ✓ Animate confetti on slow, independent loops.
- ✓ Use outlined squiggles as corner ornaments.
Don't
- ✕ Don't use gradients or soft shadows.
- ✕ Don't use photography.
- ✕ Don't place shapes over body text.
