The idea
The considered presence of a firm that has advised families and companies for 150 years. Deep navy and parchment, a classic Caslon for headings, a clear modern sans for detail, and photographs of panelled rooms and leather-bound files. Reassuring, plain-spoken and never stuffy.
Chambers Heritage presents a long-established law firm with modern clarity. It borrows from engraved legal stationery, Georgian panelled offices and the deep navy of court robes and ledger bindings, but sets body copy in a clear contemporary sans so advice reads easily. Caslon — the face of 18th-century legal and parliamentary printing — gives headlines authority without pomp. Oxblood appears like a wax seal or a red ribbon on a brief: rare and meaningful. The tone is calm competence: plain English, real numbers, no jargon.
Principles
- Authority through restraint: no flourishes, no hype.
- Plain English — every headline should make sense to a client, not a lawyer.
- Navy for structure, oxblood as a seal: rare and deliberate.
- Show longevity with facts: founding year, generations, cases.
- Transparent pricing wherever possible.
Motion
Restrained: content fades up 8px in half a second, once. Practice-area links draw a thin oxblood underline on hover — no other motion, nothing that would feel frivolous in a boardroom.
Do & don't
Do
- ✓ State the founding year and number of lawyers.
- ✓ Publish fixed fees where possible.
- ✓ Use oxblood only for the italic accent and key labels.
Don't
- ✕ Don't use gavels, scales or handshake imagery.
- ✕ Don't use bright accent colours or gradients.
- ✕ Don't set long text in Caslon.
